Bruce started studying at the University of Queensland where he studied Composition with Professor Colin Brumby and Ethnomusicology under Dr Gordon Spearritt. He then transferred as one of the first 6 students in the new Tönmesiter (Music Technology) degree at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where he studied Piano and Accompanying with Regis Danillon, Percussion with Dr Robert Clark and Composition with Dr Elaine Dobson, Dr Alan Lane and attended workshops and masterclasses with Michael Finnissy, Vaclav Nelhybel, Sir Michael Tippett and Gian Carlo Menotti. He undertook his Masters study at LaTrobe University with a thesis on Computer improvisation.
Since moving to Calgary in 2001, he is busy with a freelance career performing, composing and writing. He is currently Artistic Director and Organist at Hillhurst United Church.
